Tile Ridge Repaired

Description: The clay tile roof ridge repaired. After cleaning the roof deck, new heavy tarpaper was installed. The two tile courses below the ridge have been straightened and re nailed with copper nails. A new strip of wood was screwed to the roof decking to support the tile ridge closures. Tile closures were installed and secured with copper nails. A sheet of lead was then laid over the ridge board and closures to fully protect from water infiltration. The ridge tiles were cleaned of old mortar and tar and re installed.

Description: Another section of roof tile that has been fastened with steel nails that are rusting away. Many of the clay tiles have loosened and are sliding down the roof.

Description: The entire section of this roof has been taken up and re laid. No new roofing tar paper underlayment was installed. The tiles were re laid and fastened with steel nails which quickly rusted away. Most tiles are barely being held in place by head less, thin, rusted nails. Many are completely loose and held in place by their neighbor.

Description: On the south side of the house we see that the original tar paper has turned to dust. Previous leaks have been repaired poorly and are causing new leaks.

Description: Originally, the clay tile roof closures seen sliding here, were held in place by a strip of wood laid against the upper side of the last course of roof field tile. The original mortar under the ridge has long ago fallen out and left a gap for water to get to the wood and rot it out. Leaving room for the water to then get under the clay field tile.
